Time for Wood exhibition

The Leokom production plant was included in the selection of the most representative wooden buildings in Slovenia last year as part of the exhibition Time for Wood – Innovative Use of Wood in Contemporary Slovenian Architecture at the Gallusovo nabrežje in Ljubljana. The exhibition was organised by the Afront Institute as part of the Open Houses Slovenia projectand has been supported by several national institutions working to raise the profile of timber construction. “The production plant is located in an extremely sensitive environment, in close proximity to Ribnica Castle and at the same time surrounded by low-rise residential buildings. The use of timber in the upper storey of the building and on its façade facing the castle is therefore not only based on the general characteristics of the Ribnica craft culture, but also primarily exploits the semantic elements of wood. The uniformly designed wooden building ‘curtain’, instead of emphasising its distinctive dimensions and shapes, obliterates them and fuses them with the silhouette of the surrounding vegetation of the castle park. The use of wood is therefore understood not only in its ecological function, but also as a material that easily bridges the often very large gaps and distances between the anthropogenic and natural environment.”

The exhibition was on show in Ljubljana between June and August 2023.
