DKAS “Significant Achievement” award

The Awards and Recognition Committee of the Slovenian Society of Landscape Architects has awarded the renovation of Slovenske Street and Victory Square in Murska Sobota with the Significant Achievement Award. DKAS nagrade podeljuje ob 30. anniversary, and proposals from the entire 30-year period of the Society’s existence were considered.

In its explanatory memorandum, the Committee stated, inter alia: “The implementation of the project also introduces some technical innovations to the Slovenian practice of landscaping and design of outdoor areas, such as one of the first implementations of porous concrete as a final pavement, the on-site recycling of existing Pohorje tonalite pavements, the use of the Stockholm Soil Preparation System for tree planting, the anchoring of trees with steel anchors in the tree clump and the installation of sprinkler bags in the public avenues. In anticipation of the closure of the Slovenian road to traffic, the layout is designed for the long term, so that no new interventions will be needed if the decision is taken to abandon motor traffic. The review of the application highlights the above aspects as important for the development of landscape architecture, both stylistically and technically.”
